FORMER BELMONT STAR'S BIG BREAK
DELAYED BY ANOTHER
(The Tennessean)
Nashville, Tenn. -- Over the past couple of months,
Jay Ayres has made a stunning three-division leap to the top of
the U.S. professional soccer ranks.
The former Belmont standout who played last season
for the Nashville Metros, has earned a developmental contract
with the San Jose Earthquakes of Major League Soccer.
Unfortunately for Ayres, he experienced a horrendous
injury April 30 while playing for the Earthquakes, suffering a
fractured cheekbone, fractured eye socket, broken nose and deep
facial cuts following a mid-air collision with a teammate.
