Nashville,
TENN. – Freshman Bryan Taylor’s (Centertown, Ky.) first career
home run wasn’t enough to lift the Belmont baseball team (9-21)
lost its game against Lambuth (22-15), 10-5, at Greer Stadium in Nashville,
Tenn. on Tuesday.
Freshman Nate Woods (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) started the game for Belmont
and went 4.2 innings in the contest. He (0-2) gave up three earned runs
on four hits and had five strikeouts.
Josh Barnes received the win for Lambuth after pitching one full inning
and giving up one hit.
The Eagles started the scoring in the top of the first inning with a
run on a sacrifice fly to left field by b Ryan Concannon scoring Ben White.
Belmont responded in the bottom the inning with two runs of its own,
highlighted by a double to right center by junior Brandon McCall (Spring
Hill, Tenn.) which scored sophomore Packy Elkins (Raleigh, N.C.)
The Bruins continued the offensive pressure with two more runs in the
bottom of the second inning. Taylor’s solo home run accounted for
one of the runs.
Lambuth scored one run in the top of the fourth inning, four runs in
the top of the fifth inning and two more runs in the top of the sixth
inning to take an 8-4 lead.
Belmont tried to mount a comeback with a run in the bottom of the seventh
inning on a double down the left field line by McCall which scored freshman
Derek Hamblen (Plano, Texas).
However, Lambuth solidified the lead with a run in the top of the eighth
and ninth innings for the win.
The Bruins will return to action against Middle Tennessee State in Murfreesboro,
Tenn. on Apr. 9 starting at 6 p.m.
