Belmont Baseball Drops Game to Tennessee Tech, 7-4
GAME DAY CENTRAL

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont dropped its fourth consecutive contest as the Bruins fall to Tennessee Tech, 7-4, at Bush Stadium in Cookeville, Tenn. on Tuesday.

The loss drops Belmont to 4-8 while Tennessee Tech improves to 9-3-1.

Junior Jimmy Stanley (Lexington, Ky.) earned the loss for Belmont after pitching one full inning and giving up four runs and three hits. His record now stands at 1-1 for the season.

Thomas Gray earned the win for the Golden Eagles after going four full innings and giving up no runs with two hits. His record is now 1-1.

Tennessee Tech scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning through a sacrifice fly to right field by Chris King, scoring Alex Henry.

Belmont responded with three runs in the top of the third inning to take a 3-1 lead. The highlight of the inning came courtesy of a two-RBI single to centerfield by junior Brandon McCall, scoring sophomore Daniel Wagner (China Grove, N.C.) and freshman Derek Hamblen (Plano, Texas). McCall then proceeded to score a run on a single to left field by junior Derek Wiley (Dublin, Calif.).

The Bruins continued to increase the offensive effort with a run in the top of the fourth inning with a single to center field on a 3-0 pitch by Wagner, scoring sophomore Packy Elkins (Raleigh, N.C.)

The Golden Eagles loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth inning, but Woods was able to strike out Brandon Crossman to kill the rally.

Tennessee Tech scored a run in the bottom of the fifth inning courtesy of a ground out to the shortstop by Thomas Nelson, scoring pitch runner Chad Oberacker.

The Golden Eagles scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the 5-4 lead. A single to centerfield by Kirby-Jones, scoring King, and a two-run double to left field by Brandon Crossman scoring Kirby-Jones and Evan Webb highlighted the inning.

Tennessee Tech increased the lead with a two-run homerun to left field by King which also scored Jake New, in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Freshman Nate Woods (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) earned the start for Belmont and gave up two runs and four hits with three strikeouts over five full innings.

Michael Alcorn started the game for Tennessee Tech and gave up nine hits, four runs and had four strikeouts over five full innings pitched.

Junior Carlo Testa extended his hitting streak to 15 games with a single in the first inning. That’s one off of his career-high.

Freshman Bryan Taylor (Centertown, Ky.) extended his hitting streak to eight games with a single in the third inning.

The Bruins will return to action against Austin Peay at Greer Stadium in Nashville, Tenn. on Mar. 12, beginning at 3 p.m.
