BRASELTON,
GA. - - Belmont University men’s golf concluded its spring season
Wednesday, finishing in eighth place in the 2008 Atlantic Sun Men’s
Golf Championship.
After a respectable day two showing which improved their team standing,
the Bruins could not put everything together on the host Woodlands course
at the renowned Chateau Elan Resort.
However, junior Danny Amundson (Sioux Falls, S.D.) wrapped up an ultra-consistent
campaign with another fine final round. He carded four birdies en route
to a one over par round of 71 and a 54-hole total of 219 (+6), good enough
for a T-10 finish.
Sophomore Gaylon Cude (Centerville, Tenn.) shot a final round 78 to finish
T-27 at 229 (+16).
Freshman Daniel Smith (Bournemouth, Dorset Co., England) carded a final
round 76 to place T-32 at 232 (+19).
A triple bogey at hole No. 7 halted the momentum of sophomore Scott O’Brien
(Brookings, S.D.), who came home in 80 to finish T-46 at 238 (+25). Sophomore
Stuart Ashwood (Northampton, England) placed T-48 at 244 (+31) after shooting
a closing 84.
North Florida won the team championship at 866 (+14).
Gareth Shaw of East Tennessee State earned medalist honors at 210 (-3).
