MUNCIE,
IND. - - Belmont University men’s golf finished in fine fashion
Tuesday, placing eighth in the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational hosted
by Ball State University.
After carding rounds of 292 and 303 in Monday’s play, Belmont closed
with a team total of 290 (+10) on the 6,438 yard Par 70 Delaware Country
Club layout; an impressive showing as only five other teams in the 17
team field closed stronger.
Individually, junior Danny Amundson (Sioux Falls, S.D.) continued his
steady play, shooting a final round two over par 72 to finish T-23 at
218 (+8). Sophomore Stuart Ashwood (Northampton, England) rocketed up
the leaderboard with a career-best round of three under par 67 to put
him T-32 at 220 (+10). Ashwood’s 67 was the third lowest round of
the day.
Freshman Daniel Smith (Bournemouth, England) shot a closing 76 to place
T-45 at 224 (+14). Sophomore Gaylon Cude (Centerville, Tenn.) carded a
final round 75 to end up T-58 at 226 (+16).
Sophomore Simon Marshall (North Yorkshire, England) was T-71 at 231 (+21)
after a closing 77.
Toledo won the team title at 842 (+2), while Grant Leaver of Austin Peay
won medalist honors at 206 (-4).
The Bruins return to action October 15-16 when they play host to the
Belmont Fall Shootout.
