BRENTWOOD,
TENN. - - Belmont University men’s golf finished 12th as host of
the Belmont Fall Shootout.
Despite overnight rains which softened the 7,043 yard Par 72 Nashville
Golf & Athletic Club layout, scores remained relatively high with
fast greens and challenging hole locations.
Sophomore Simon Marshall (North Yorkshire, England) led the Bruins with
a final round 74 to place T-18 with a 54 hole total of 221 (+5). Sophomore
Scott O’Brien (Brookings, S.D.) fired a final round 77 to come in
T-44 place at 229 (+13).
Sophomore Stuart Ashwood (Northampton, England) shot a final round 77
and finished T-55 at 235 (+19). Junior Danny Amundson (Sioux Falls, S.D)
battled through a hardship on the Par 5 3rd hole to shoot a final round
79 and place T-61 at 239 (+23). Freshman Robby McNiff (Muskegon, Mich.)
shot a final round 79 to place 64th at 242 (+26).
Competing as an individual, sophomore Bryn Rocke (Durban, South Africa)
had a final round 77 to finish T-31 at 225 (+9). Freshman Dan Smith (Bournemouth,
England) carded a final round 83 to place T-59 at 236 (+20). Sophomore
Gaylon Cude (Centerville, Tenn.) carded a final round 77 to come in 67th
at 250 (+34). Senior Patrick Kelly (Lexington, Ky.) shot a final round
87 to come in 68th at 258 (+42).
Akron won the team competition at 871 (+7), while Austin Peay’s
Grant Leaver claimed medalist honors in a three-man playoff with Kyle
Henderson of Florida Gulf Coast and Miami (OH)’s Nathan Sutherland.
The trio finished with matching 54 hole totals of 215 (-1). Leaver birdied
the first playoff hole.
Campbell’s Fredric Sundberg also finished at 215, but was unable
to participate in the playoff due to travel.
