PINEHURST,
N.C. - - Belmont University men’s golf stands fourth through 36
holes of the Mid Pines Intercollegiate, hosted by Boston College.
The new-look Bruins received solid play top to bottom on the 6,528 yard
Par 72 Mid Pines Country Club layout. Sophomore Simon Marshall (North
Yorkshire, England) paced Belmont and finds himself fourth individually
after firing rounds of 68-71 for a 36-hole total of 139 (-5). Marshall
was the 18-hole co-leader with his career-low 68.
Junior Danny Amundson (Sioux Falls, S.D.) is also in the running individually
after rounds of 72-72=144 (E). Sophomore Stuart Ashwood (Northampton,
England) carded rounds of 75-71=146 (+2), while sophomore Gaylon Cude
(Centerville, Tenn.) fired rounds of 74-75=149 (+5).
Freshman Daniel Smith (Bournemouth, England) – making his collegiate
debut – shot 74-77=151 (+7).
As a team, Belmont’s 36-hole total of 577 (+1) puts them behind
Loyola, East Carolina, and Old Dominion heading into Tuesday morning’s
final round.
The Mid Pines Intercollegiate is comprised of a 16 team field.
