CASHIERS,
N.C. - - Belmont University men’s golf finds itself tied for 12th
position after day one of the WCU Intercollegiate hosted by Western Carolina
University.
There were just nine subpar rounds Monday on the 6,767 Par 71 Country
Club of Sapphire Valley layout. Belmont was paced by junior Danny Amundson
(Sioux Falls, S.D.) stands T-21 after an opening round two over par 73.
Sophomore Simon Marshall (North Yorkshire, England) shot an opening 75,
good enough for T-40. Sophomore Stuart Ashwood (Northampton, England)
and freshman Daniel Smith (Bournemouth, England) are T-48 after each carded
first round five over par 76’s.
Sophomore Bryn Rocke (Durban, South Africa) is T-62 after his opening
78.
Belmont’s team total of 300 (+16) is 22 shots behind host and team
pacesetter Western Carolina.
Andres Cuenca and Dustin Furnari of Western Carolina stand atop the individual
leaderboard at five under par 66.
The final round of the 36-hole event is scheduled for Tuesday morning.
