CASHIERS,
N.C. - - Belmont University men’s golf wrapped up its fall season
by placing 11th in the WCU Intercollegiate hosted by Western Carolina
University.
Cool temperatures yielded just four subpar rounds Tuesday on the 6,767
Par 71 Country Club of Sapphire Valley layout.
Belmont was paced by junior Danny Amundson (Sioux Falls, S.D.); among
the tournament leaders in Par 3 scoring and overall pars, Amundson carded
a final round three over par 74 to finish T-17 at 147 (+5).
Sophomore Stuart Ashwood (Northampton, England) shot a final round 76
to place T-39 at 152 (+10). Sophomore Bryn Rocke (Durban, South Africa)
also shot a final round 76 to come in T-50 at 154 (+12).
Freshman Daniel Smith (Bournemouth, England) had a final round 78 to
also place T-50 at 154 (+12). Sophomore Simon Marshall (North Yorkshire,
England) carded a final round 81 to come T-57 at 156 (+14).
The Bruins’ team total of 604 (300-304) finished 39 strokes behind
team champion Western Carolina.
Andres Cuenca of Western Carolina won medalist honors at seven under
par 135 (66-69).
Belmont resumes play in the spring 2008 season.
