CLARKSVILLE,
TENN. - - Belmont men’s golf put the finishing touches on another
solid tournament and fall season Tuesday, placing fourth out of 18 schools
in the 2006 Austin Peay State Intercollegiate.
As a team, Belmont married a final round score of 293 (+5), with opening
day tallies of 294 and 290 to come in at 877 (+13), 19 strokes behind
overall champion Troy University.
Individually, senior Jeff Lanier (Austin, Texas) – on the heels
of his co-medalist showing two weeks ago at Ball State – shot opening
rounds of 69 and 70 on the 6,841 Par 72 Governors’ layout. He entered
Tuesday’s final round in second place just two strokes off the pace.
Though the team leader fired a three over par 75 in chilly conditions,
Lanier’s 54 hole total of two under par 216 still gave him a third
straight Top-10 finish, a T-7.
Sophomore Danny Amundson (Sioux Falls, S.D.) carded a final round even
par 72 to end up T-22 at 221 (+5). Freshman Scott O’Brien (Brookings,
S.D.) also shot a final round 72 to finish T-33 at 223 (+7). Freshman
Bryn Rocke (Durban, South Africa), who equaled Lanier with a fine two
under par 70 Monday afternoon, shot a final round 77 to also come in T-33
at 223 (+7). Freshman Gaylon Cude (Centerville, Tenn.) capped his finest
collegiate showing with a final round 74 to finish 38th at 224 (+8).
The event concludes Belmont’s fall season. The Bruins return to
the links for spring action February 17-18 at Rice University.
