GA. - - On a day where birdies were in short supply, Belmont men’s
golf stands seventh after round one of the 2007 Atlantic Sun Conference
Men’s Golf Championship. The Bruins carded a team total of 320 (+36)
on the 7,003 yard Par 71 Golf Club at Sanctuary Cove layout, putting them
18 strokes behind overall leader, the University of North Florida.
Freshman Bryn Rocke (Durban, South Africa) led the Belmont cause, standing
T-9 after his opening round of six over par 77. Sophomore Scott O’Brien
(Brookings, S.D.) – fresh off his career best finish of T-7 in the
Belmont Intercollegiate – had a solid round going before three bogeys
coming home led to an opening round of nine over par 80. He is T-23.
Freshman Gaylon Cude (Centerville, Tenn.) is T-27 after his opening round
of ten over par 81. Junior Danny Amundson (Sioux Falls, S.D.) shot an
eleven over par 82 and is currently T-32, while freshman Simon Marshall
(N. Yorkshire, England) finds himself T-37 after his round of twelve over
par 83.
There is a three-way tie atop the individual leaderboard at two over
par 73.
The second of three rounds is scheduled for play tomorrow morning.
