FRANKLIN,
TENN. - - After 36 holes of stellar play, Belmont men’s golf endured
a difficult final round Tuesday, finishing seventh in the eighth annual
Belmont Intercollegiate.
The Bruins stood joint second following Monday’s play, with a remarkable
team total of 14 under par 577. However, windier conditions Tuesday led
to higher figures and Belmont was not immune to the over par scorecards.
BU’s final round total of 301 (+17) and tournament score of 855
(+3) placed the team 31 strokes behind overall team champion, Austin Peay.
Individually, sophomore Scott O’Brien (Brookings, S.D.) shot a
final round one over par 72 to finish a career-best T-7 at 207 (-6). Freshman
Bryn Rocke (Durban, South Africa) fired a final round 75 to place T-29
at 214 (+1). Junior Danny Amundson (Sioux Falls, S.D.) carded a final
round 79 to finish 41st at 217 (+4). Freshman Simon Marshall (N. Yorkshire,
England) shot a final round 75 to place T-44 at 219 (+6). Rounding out
the Bruin scoring, freshman Gaylon Cude (Centerville, Tenn.) carded a
final round 79 to finish 54th at 226 (+13).
Akron’s Blake Sattler was the individual champion at 13 under par
(70-63-67=200), just one shot off the tournament record total of 199 held
by Missouri’s Chris Mabry.
Also of note, Vanderbilt’s Brett Lange aced the 156 yard Par 3
eighth hole.
Belmont returns to action April 16-18 in the Atlantic Sun Championship.
