JACKSONVILLE,
ALA. - - Perhaps the best attribute a golfer can possess is a short memory.
On a day where the golf course won out, Belmont men’s golf stands
12th after day one of the Grub Mart-Young Oil Intercollegiate hosted by
Jacksonville State University.
After promising play at Austin Peay, Rice, and West Florida to open the
spring season, the Bruins could not get anything going on the 7,129 yard
Par 72 Silver Lake Golf Course. Belmont’s morning 18 holes of 318
(+30) placed ninth out of 14 participating teams, but the warmer afternoon
temperatures did not translate into scorching scorecards.
Individually, junior Danny Amundson (Sioux Falls, S.D.) – fresh
off a career-best second place finish at West Florida - is 17th at 153
(76-77, +9). Sophomore Scott O’Brien (Brookings, S.D.) stands T-44
at 160 (79-81, +16), while senior Jeff Lanier (Austin, Texas) and freshman
Simon Marshall (N. Yorkshire, England) are each T-55 at 162. Freshman
Gaylon Cude (Centerville, Tenn.) is 69th at 167.
Columbus State leads the team standings at 599, while Murray State’s
Michael Craft paces the individual race at three under par 141.
The final round is scheduled to begin at 7:30 am CT Tuesday.
