HOUSTON,
TEXAS - - High scores ruled the day as Belmont men’s golf competed
in its first full field event of the spring season, the Rice Intercollegiate.
The challenging 7,184 yard Par 72 Westwood Golf Club layout truly proved
to be the winner, as not a single golfer in the talented field of 13 schools
broke 70.
Belmont finished the day ninth with team scores of 314-313=627. Nevertheless,
the Bruins are still within striking distance – 21 shots - of overall
leader Sam Houston St. (296-310=606).
Senior Jeff Lanier (Austin, Texas) is tied for fifth place after rounds
of 77 and 72 (+5). Lanier is six behind individual leader Harrison Moore
of the College of Charleston (143, -1).
Rounding out the Bruin day one scorecards: sophomore Scott O’Brien
(Brookings, S.D.) is T-34 (157, +13), freshman Bryn Rocke (Durban, South
Africa) is T-46 (160, +16), junior Patrick Kelly (Lexington, Ky.) is T-53
(161, +17), and junior Danny Amundson is 68 (167, +23).
The final round is scheduled for play Sunday morning at 8:30 am CT.
