HOUSTON,
TEXAS - - In its best collective round of the year, Belmont University
men’s golf placed ninth at the Rice Intercollegiate. After team
rounds of 314 and 313 in yesterday’s opening 36 holes at the 7,184
yard Par 72 Westwood Golf Club layout, Belmont came home in 304 (+16)
in Sunday’s final round. The Bruins’ total of 931 ended up
31 shots behind overall team winner, Sam Houston State.
Individually, senior Jeff Lanier (Austin, Texas) led Belmont with a final
round even par 72. His three round total of 221 (+5) placed him T-5, four
shots back of individual champion Aaron O’Callaghan of Southeast
Louisiana.
Sophomore Scott O’Brien (Brookings, S.D.) fired a final round 78
to finish 35th (235, +19). Freshman Bryn Rocke (Durban, South Africa)
also carded a final round 78 to finish T-44 (238, +22). Junior Danny Amundson
(Sioux Falls, S.D.) shot a final round 76 to place 63rd (243, +27). Junior
Patrick Kelly (Lexington, Ky.) shot a final round 90 to finish 70th (251,
+35).
Belmont next plays in the Argonaut Invitational hosted by West Florida,
February 26-27.
