MEN’S GOLF PLACES 14TH IN THE MID PINES INTERCOLLEGIATE
GAME DAY CENTRAL

PINEHURST, N.C. - - The Belmont men’s golf team opened its 2006 fall season by finishing 14th in the Mid Pines Intercollegiate. The Bruins carded rounds of 295-297-297 to finish at 889 (+25) in the 54 hole event at the 6,528 yard Par 72 Mid Pines Country Club layout.

Senior Jeff Lanier (Austin, Texas) led the Bruins, firing a final round one under par 71, to finish T-22 at 217 (+1). Freshman Bryn Rocke (Durban, South Africa) made a fine showing in his collegiate debut, ending up T-45 at 222 (+6) after a final round 74. Rounding out the Bruin scoring: sophomore Danny Amundson (Sioux Falls, S.D.) T-52 (223, +7), freshman Scott O’Brien (Brookings, S.D.) T64 (227, +11), freshman Gaylon Cude (Centerville, Tenn.) 85 (238, +22).

Lanier finished 12 shots behind overall individual champion Ryan Spears of Wichita State, who carded a final round five under par 67 to finish at 205 (-11).

Wisconsin won the overall team title at 847 (-17).

Belmont next plays in the Jaguar Intercollegiate hosted by South Alabama, September 18-19.
