LANIER SHINES AS MEN’S GOLF PLACES EIGHTH
IN CALLIS COMMUNICATIONS INTERCOLLEGIATE

MOBILE, ALA. - - Belmont University Men’s Golf closed strong en route to an eighth place finish in the 2006 Callis Communications Intercollegiate hosed by the University of South Alabama.

After opening rounds of 293 and 294 (+11) Monday placed the Bruins 11th out of twelve participating schools, Belmont stormed to the clubhouse with a sterling team score of six under par 282 Tuesday on the 6,850 yard Par 72 Azalea City Golf Course layout. Only eventual team champion Mississippi State closed in finer fashion.

Belmont senior Jeff Lanier (Austin, Texas) – whose opening rounds of 72 and 67 put him among the leaders – carded a final round four under par 68 to finish in a tie for second at 207 (-9). Lanier finished a single shot behind eventual individual champion Matt Fast of Mississippi State. Lanier recorded a win and four Top-10 finishes in 2005-06.

Among the other BU finishers, sophomore Danny Amundson (Sioux Falls, S.D.) shot a final round 71 to end up T-42 at 222 (+6). Freshman Bryn Rocke (Durban, South Africa) also shot a final round 71 to finish T-45 at 223 (+7). Freshman Scott O’Brien (Brookings, South Dakota) – who opened with a one under par 71 – closed with an even par 72 to finish T-55 at 226 (+10). Senior Kevin Burrell (Nashville, Tenn.) closed with 75 to finish T-61 at 228 (+12). Lastly, freshman Gaylon Cude (Centerville, Tenn.) finished 76th at 240 (+24).

Belmont returns to the links October 9-10 for the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational hosted by Ball State University.
