FLA. - - Behind a career performance from junior Danny Amundson (Sioux
Falls, S.D.), Belmont men’s golf finished in fifth place at the
Argonaut Invitational hosted by the University of West Florida Tuesday.
Amundson, who entered the final round four strokes off the pace at one
under par, fired a career-low four under par 68 to finish tied for second
place (211, -5) – two shots behind medalist Rafael Campos of Virginia
Commonwealth University.
As a team, the Bruins struggled somewhat coming to the clubhouse, closing
in 298 (+10). Belmont finished the event in fifth place (299-282-298=879),
15 strokes behind team champion Virginia Commonwealth University.
Individually, senior Jeff Lanier (Austin, Texas) shot a final round 77
to place T-20 (220, +4). Sophomore Scott O’Brien (Brookings, S.D.)
shot a final round 75 to come in T-24 (221, +5). Freshman Gaylon Cude
(Centerville, Tenn.) carded a final round 78 to place T-50 (229, +13).
Freshman Bryn Rocke (Durban, South Africa) came home in 79 to finish T-61
(233, +17).
Belmont returns to action March 18-19 in the Grub Mart Intercollegiate
hosted by Jacksonville State.
