Falls, S.D. – Former Belmont men’s golfer Mike Martin
was named South Dakota’s Male Golfer of the Year by the South Dakota
Golf Association (SDGA).
Martin, who graduated Belmont last May with a degree in Exercise Science,
earned the award from the SDGA after a successful summer in the state
golf championships. He won his second consecutive South Dakota Stroke
Play Championship, teamed with Mark Anderson of Sioux Falls to win the
Two-Man Championship and reached the quarterfinals of the SDGA Match Play
Championship.
The Brookings, South Dakota native made a significant contribution to
the Belmont golf program during his three years in Nashville. He finished
his career with a 75.2 scoring average, third best in Belmont’s
Division I history and posted 10 top-20 finishes, including a career-best
second place at the Samford Intercollegiate last February.
