HEATH, GRAVELY LIFT THE BELMONT MEN’S SOCCER GRABS 1-0 SHUTOUT OVER FLORIDA GULF COAST

GAME DAY CENTRAL

NAPLES, FLA. - - Junior Navarda Heath’s goal in the 77th minute lifted the Belmont men’s soccer team to a 1-0 shutout over Florida Gulf Coast at North Collier Regional Park in Naples, Fla. on Sunday afternoon.

The victory improves Belmont to 5-7-2 overall and 2-4-1 in the Atlantic Sun, while Florida Gulf Coast drops to 6-8-1, 2-4-1 in the conference.

Heath scored his second goal of the season off a rebound in front of the net for the game-winner. Sophomore Wade Wonderlin received credit for the assist, his team-leading third of the season.

Sophomore Ron Gravely made four saves in the match for his league-leading fifth shutout of the season for the win. His five shutouts are tied for the second-most in a season in the history of Belmont. Current graduate assistant coach, Kyle Roelke, had five shutouts last season. The record is currently held by Matt Renfrow, who had six shutouts in the 2003 season.

Florida Gulf Coast had 18 shots in the match, while Belmont had 10. The Eagles also led the Bruins in corner kicks attempted, 5-1.

“We played well today,” said Belmont head coach Earle Davidson. “It was hot today and playing your second match in three days is always tough, but we did a good job.”

The Bruins will return to action on Oct. 26 at the Whitten Soccer Complex in Nashville, Tenn. to face North Florida, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

“We’re looking forward to this weekend,” said Davidson. “We’re in good shape and have been playing well in our last few matches.”
