BRUINS CONCLUDE REGULAR SEASON WITH TWO NON-CONFERENCE ROAD MATCHES AGAINST SOUTHERN CONFERENCE TEAMS

NASHVILLE, TENN. - - The Belmont men’s soccer team (6-8-2, 3-5-1, Atlantic Sun) will conclude its season with two non-conference road matches against Southern Conference teams.

Belmont will first face Furman (14-2), who is currently ranked 16th in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) top 25 poll. The match will take place in Greenville, S.C. on Nov. 2 and begin at 5:00 p.m.

The Bruins will conclude their season at Wofford (4-11-1) on Nov. 4 in Spartanburg, S.C. and begin at 1:00 p.m.

SERIES HISTORY

Furman holds a 3-0-0 series history lead over Belmont. The Paladins defeated the Bruins, 7-0, in the teams’ last meeting on Aug. 31, 2001. Furman was ranked #5 in the nation at the time of that match. All three meetings have been hosted by Furman and the Paladins have been ranked in the top 20 during each matchup.

Belmont holds a 4-1-0 over Wofford. The two teams’ last meeting was on Sept. 24, 2006 at Belmont and the Bruins grabbed a 2-0 victory behind a two-point night from Senior Ian Schinelli (Naperville, Ill.). He scored one goal and had one assist.

LAST WEEK

Belmont clinched a spot in the Atlantic Sun Tournament with its split over last weekend.

Junior Mete Ozkan’s (Sarasota, Fla.) two goals lifted the Belmont men’s soccer team to a convincing 2-0 shutout victory over North Florida at the Whitten Soccer Complex in Nashville, Tenn. on Oct. 26.

Sophomore Ron Gravely (Dallas) continued his winning ways in the match with three saves for his school season record-tying sixth shutout of the year. He has tied the record set by Matt Renfrow in the 2003 season.

Belmont dropped its final home match of the season against Jacksonville, 2-0, on Oct. 28.

BELMONT QUALIFIES FOR ATLANTIC SUN TOURNAMENT

The Bruins have qualified for Atlantic Sun Tournament, which will take place from Nov. 14-17 at Stetson University in DeLand, Fla. Belmont will face Lipscomb in its opening round match on Nov. 14, beginning at 4:00 p.m. ET

GRAVELY NAMED ATLANTIC SUN DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Ron Gravely was named the defensive player of the week for Oct. 22.

The sophomore psychology major from Dallas recorded his conference-leading fifth shutout of the season in Belmont’s 1-0 victory at Florida Gulf Coast in Ft. Myers, Fla. on Oct. 21, with four saves. His six shutouts this season are tied for first all-time in Belmont history. This is Gravely’s first honor from the Atlantic Sun.
