GAME DAY CENTRAL

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - - The Belmont men’s soccer team dropped its match at Gardner-Webb at Varsity Field in Boiling Springs, N.C. on Friday evening. The loss snapped Belmont’s five-game winning streak, the longest in Division 1 history.

The loss drops Belmont to 3-4-2 overall, 0-1-1 in the Atlantic Sun while Gardner-Webb improves to 1-8-1 and 1-2-0 in the A-Sun.

The Bulldogs scored the lone goal of the match in the second minute when Richard Godfrey netted home a pass from Zach Burkett to make the score 1-0.

“Tonight was a disappointing result,” said Belmont head coach Earle Davidson. “We were all over them had our chances to score. We played more focused in the second half and almost got the win.”

Belmont finished with six total shots and eight corner kicks in the match, while Gardner-Webb attempted 11 shots and three corners.

Sophomore Ron Gravely made three saves for the Bruins but had his career-long scoreless streak end at 254:39.

Belmont will return to action on Oct. 7 at USC-Upstate in Spartanburg, S.C. beginning at 1:00 p.m.
