BELMONT DROPS QUARTERFINAL MATCH IN ATLANTIC SUN TOURNAMENT TO LIPSCOMB, 1-0

DELAND, FLA. – The Belmont men’s soccer team dropped its match to Lipscomb, 1-0, in a quarterfinal match at the Atlantic Sun Tournament on Wednesday evening.

With the loss, Belmont drops to 7-10-2, while the win improves Lipscomb’s record to 6-11-3.

Lipscomb scored the first goal of the match in the 17th minute of action, courtesy of Ben Page, to take the lead, 1-0.

Belmont had an excellent chance to tie the score in the 38th minute when a scramble developed in the Lipscomb penalty box and sophomore Justin Hay (Toronto) attempted an off-balance shot towards an empty net but grazed it wide of the goal.

Belmont outshot Lipscomb in the first half, 8-7 and the Bisons attempted more corner kicks, 2-1.

The Bruins had a chance to tie the score with 35 minutes left in the match with a header from Hay that sailed barely high past the crossbar.

Freshman Brett Parker (Fairmont, W.Va.) had a header opportunity with 22 minutes left in the match, but Lipscomb goalkeeper made the save.

Senior Justin Mooneyhan made a shot attempt with five minutes left in the match that sailed just over the net.

Belmont attempted more shots then Lipscomb, 16-7, in the match.
