BELMONT MEN’S SOCCER DROPS MATCH AT USC-UPSTAE, 3-2 |

The loss drops Belmont to 3-5-2 overall and 0-2-1 in the Atlantic Sun, while USC-Upstate improves to 2-8-0 and 2-2-0 in the A-Sun. Both teams played the first half to nearly a draw before Jake Burridge of USC Upstate netted home a crossing pass from Nick Buxon that was deflected by Alex Buxton for the goal in the 44th minute. Belmont outshot USC-Upstate in the first half, 11-6, and notched more corner kicks, 4-2. The Bruins scored two consecutive goals in the second half to take the lead, 2-1. The first goal came courtesy of Schinelli, who placed a shot past the goalkeeper after receiving a centering pass from senior Justin Mooneyhan, who received credit for the assist. It was Schinelli’s second goal of the season and took place in the 68th minute of action. Belmont’s other goal came in the 79th minute, when Parker headed home his first career goal from a crossing pass courtesy of junior Cyrus Eaton. The Spartans responded with two goals to grab the victory. USC-Upstate scored in the 82nd minute courtesy of Landon Fruge, who placed a corner kick pass from Chad McCoy past the goalkeeper for the goal. The game-winning goal came from Troy Simon in the 83rd minute who placed a centering crossing pass from McCoy for the score. “We’re playing well, but just aren’t finishing matches,” said Belmont head coach Earle Davidson. Belmont outshot USC-Upstate 20-10 in the game and had six corner kicks in the match, while USC-Upstate had four corners. Belmont will return to action on Oct. 11 against Campbell at the Whitten
