BELMONT MEN’S SOCCER DROPS REGULAR-SEASON FINALE TO WOFFORD, 1-0

GAME DAY CENTRAL

GREENVILLE, S.C. - - Junior Navarda Heath’s (Montego Bay, Jamaica) and senior Justin Mooneyhan’s (Nashville, Tenn.) two shots on goal were not enough to lift the Bruins, as Belmont dropped its regular-season finale to Wofford, 1-0, at Snyder Field in Spartanburg, S.C. on Sunday afternoon.

The loss drops Belmont to 7-9-2 while Wofford improves to 6-11-1.

The lone goal came in the 68th minute through a penalty kick. Wofford’s Wilson Drew drew a foul within the 18-foot penalty box and gained a penalty kick for the Terriers. Joey Taylor converted the scoring opportunity and gave Wofford the lead, 1-0.

Wofford ended the match with more shot attempts, 10-9, and more corner kicks, 5-2.

Belmont goalkeeper, sophomore Ron Gravely (Dallas), had two saves in the loss. Taylor had seven saves in net for the Terriers for the win.

“Obviously we’re disappointed in the loss,” said Belmont head coach Earle Davidson. “However, we sat some guys out today and tried different lineups to give everyone a chance to play and get ready for the A-Sun Tournament.”

Belmont finishes the regular season with seven wins, the third-most ever in history. This is also the fifth season that Belmont has had at least seven wins in a season.

Belmont will return to action on Nov. 14 in the Atlantic Sun Tournament against Lipscomb in a quarterfinal match in DeLand, Fla. beginning at 3:00 p.m.

“We’re playing well right now and playing good defense,” said Davidson. “We’re looking forward to heading the A-Sun Tournament and getting some good results.”
