Charlotte,
N.C. – The Belmont men’s track and field team opened
up its spring season at the 49er Track and Field Classic hosted by UNC-Charlotte
Saturday in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The Bruins posted five top-five finishes among the eight events the team
competed in during the meet. The team’s performance was highlighted
by its pair of Kenyan runners. Freshman Hillary Cheruiyot won the 3000
meter steeplechase with a time of 9:35.81. He also placed second in the
1500 meters with a time of 3:54.93. Fellow Kenyan Kipkosgei Magut finished
second in the 3000 meter steeplechase and fourth in the 1500 meters. The
only other Bruin with a top-five finish was John Brigham, who placed fourth
in the 5000 meters.

Belmont is back in action next Saturday as they compete at the Rhodes
