Tenn. -- The Belmont track and field teams opened their 2007
indoor season Sunday at the Ed Temple Classic hosted by Tennessee State.
The BU women posted nine top-10 finishes on Sunday. Sophomore Lynette
Rives placed third in the 55 meters, while Lauren Williams, Megan Saunders,
and Elizabeth Smothers finished fourth, fifth, and sixth respectively
in the mile. Also, BU’s 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams both finished
fourth in their respective events. In addition, freshman Elizabeth Codrington
broke the school indoor record for the triple jump with a mark of 36-01.25.
The Belmont men posted 11 top-10 finishes during the meet. Freshman Will
Peters (pictured left) won the mile with a time of 4:29.21. His teammates
Kip Hill and Clay Hannah finished third and fifth. Freshman Joe Frye posted
two top-five finishes on Sunday. He placed second in the shot put with
a mark of 42-11.50 and fourth in the weight throw with a mark of 45-07.
In addition, BU’s distance medley team placed second in their event
with a time of 10:37.13.

The track teams are back in action on January 19-20 at the SIU Indoor
