Columbia,
Mo. – Belmont track and field athletes competed in five
events on Friday as day one of the NCAA Mideast Regional began at the
University of Missouri in Columbia.
In the women’s individual events, sophomore Lynette Rives did not
advance to the finals in the 100 and 200 meters. In 100 meters, she placed
17th out of 28 runners with a time of 11.94, while in the 200 meters,
she finished 11th out of 22 runners with a time of 23.99. Sophomore Lizz
Pollock failed to advance to Saturday’s 400 meter hurdle final as
she placed 15th out of 25 competitors with a time of 1:01.41.
In the women’s 4x100 meter relay, Belmont’s quartet of Rives,
Pollock, Jessica Giles, and Khalia Turner placed 14th out of 17 teams
with a time of 46.17.
On the men’s side, Belmont’s two competitors in the 5000
meters finished among the top-15, but were unable to advance to the NCAA
Championships. Junior Kipkosgei (Collin) Magut placed 12th with a time
of 14:11.20, while teammate Ryan Snellen finished 14th with a time of
14:28.61.
On Saturday, BU athletes will compete in two events. Junior Christa Coppin
will participate in the pole vault finals beginning at 2:30pm, while BU’s
women’s 4x400 meter relay team will compete in their finals at 7:20pm.
