BELMONT’S MEN’S TRACK AND FIELD TEAM OPENS INDOOR SEASON AT ED TEMPLE CLASSIC; GRASS WINS POLE VAULT

NASHVILLE, TENN. - - The Belmont men’s track team opened its 2008 indoor season at the Ed Temple Classic, hosted by Tennessee State, in Nashville Tenn. on Saturday.

Senior Brandon Grass (Thompsons Station, Tenn.) won the Pole Vault with a peak height of 4.26m.

Junior John Brigham (Mobile, Ala.), sophomore Hillary Cheruiyot (Eldoret, Kenya), sophomore Clay Hannah (Lebanon, Tenn.) and Senior Collin Magut (Kitale, Kenya) teamed together for the Distance Medley competition and finished third with a final time of 10:38.22.

Senior Stephen Register (Franklin, Tenn.) placed 17th in the 200 Meter Dash with a time of 23.57s. Brent Buyse finished in 14th place in the 400 Meter Dash, running the race in 52.70s. Sophomore Daniel Jones (White Bluff, Tenn.) finished the One Mile Run in 4:34.54, placing in fourth place.

Jameson Elder finished tied for eighth in the High Jump with a distance of 1.88m.

Joe Frye placed third in the Shot Put with a distance of 14.43m and fourth in the Weight Throw with 14.56m. Junior Tyler Howell (Chattanooga, Tenn.) placed seventh in the Weight Throw with a distance of 12.46m.

The Bruins will return to action at the MTSU Invitational in Murfreesboro, Tenn. on Jan. 19.
