GA. - - Sophomore Joe Frye, a sophomore thrower from Roscommon,
Mich., was awarded his first ever male Track and Field Athlete of the
Week award from the Atlantic Sun Conference, it was announced on Wednesday.
The music business major broke the Belmont school record in the weight
throw with a distance of 53-10.5 (16.42m) at the Broadway Prescription
Invitational, hosted by Southeast Missouri, on Feb. 22. The throw was
good enough to place Frye in fifth for the competition. He will enter
the A-Sun Indoor Track and Field Championships with the third-best distance
throw in the event on the season. Frye also owns a top-six distance in
the shot put for the conference. His throw of 47-04.25 (14.43m), which
ranks sixth in the league, took place at the Ed Temple Classic on Jan.

The Atlantic Sun Conference is a 12-member league committed to Building
Winners for Life, with a focus on academic and athletic integrity and
a balance between the two for the student-athlete, and maintaining a high
level of sportsmanship. Headquartered in Macon, Ga., the A-Sun encompasses
six of the top eight media markets in the Southeast. The A-Sun consists
of some of the most dynamic private and public institutions in the region:
Belmont University, Campbell University, East Tennessee State University,
Florida Gulf Coast University, Gardner-Webb University, Jacksonville University,
Kennesaw State University, Lipscomb University, Mercer University, University
of North Florida, University of South Carolina Upstate and Stetson University.
The Bruins will return to action at the Atlantic Sun Championships in
Johnson City, Tenn. from Feb. 29 to March 1.
