Nashville,
Tenn. – The Belmont men and women’s track and field
teams won one individual title and posted a total of 12 top-ten finishes
at this weekend’s Vanderbilt Invitational held in Nashville, Tennessee.
On the men’s side, BU posted seven top-10s. They were led once
again by sophomore Collin Magut, who won the 1500 meter title with a time
of 3:51.59 and finished eighth in the 800 meters. In the pole vault, Brandon
Grass placed fifth with a mark of 14-05.25, which ties the school record.
His teammate Seth Jones placed seventh in the event as well. In addition,
Caleb Swartz finished fifth in the 3000 meters with a time of 8:43.31.
The Belmont women had five top-ten finishes. They were led by freshman
Lynette Rives, who put together another solid performance. She finished
second in the 200 meters with a time of 23.97, which is .01 off qualifying
for NCAA regionals. She also placed third in the 100 meters with a school
record time of 11.88. In the 5000 meters, senior Lindsey Honea placed
second with a time of 17:52.48, while her teammate, Megan Saunders, finished
sixth with a time of 18:05.14.
