New Orleans, LA – The Belmont Bruin cross country teams retain their lofty regional rankings in the second 2007 Division 1 Cross Country regional polls as released by the U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association. The Bruin men remained fourth behind Alabama, Florida State and Florida and in front of Auburn and Tennessee, who are fifth and sixth respectively. The Bruin women fell one spot to 10th, swapping spots with Tennessee Chattanooga. The top five teams are now Florida State, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida and UAB. The national rankings were also released. Even though neither Belmont squad is ranked in the top-30, both will have the opportunity to earn that recognition by competing in this weekend’s star-studded Roy Griak Invitational hosted by Minnesota. Three top-30 men’s teams (Minnesota, Michigan State and Iowa State) will run and four top-10 women’s teams (Arizona, Minnesota, Michigan State and Virginia) will participate. A full preview will be posted on belmontbruins.com Thursday, September 27. For complete regional and national rankings, log onto http://ustfccca.cstv.com/.
