ORLEANS, LA. - - The Belmont men’s and women’s cross country
teams find themselves in high cotton, as each is ranked in the initial
2007 Division I Cross Country regional polls as released by the U.S. Track
& Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Monday.
Belmont men’s cross country is ranked fourth in the South Region
poll – this following a dominating victory in the Belmont Opener
August 31. The Bruins had four of the top six finishers and six of the
top 11.
Meanwhile, the Belmont women’s cross country team is ranked ninth
in the South Region poll. Sophomore Brittany Thune (Sioux Falls, S.D.)
and senior Lauren Williams (Nashville, Tenn.) each posted top 10 finishes
in the Belmont Opener. The Bruins
finished third in a highly competitive field behind only Tennessee and
Vanderbilt – who rank third and fifth respectively in the region.
Both Belmont teams are in action this coming weekend at the Vanderbilt
Invitational
Nine regions represent D-I cross country.
