Jonesborough,
Tenn. – Led by Lorie Warren’s second round score
of 69, the Belmont women’s golf team remains in third place after
two rounds of the Atlantic Sun Championship held Tuesday at The Ridges
Golf Club in Jonesborough, Tennessee. Warren’s score also catapulted
her into the lead of the individual standings.
On a sunny and cool day in Northeast Tennessee, the Bruins shot a solid
team score of 306 to stay in third place at 626. They made up some ground
on second place Campbell, who shot 310, and now stand just one shot behind
the two-time defending champions. However, they are 29 shots behind tournament
leader ETSU, who stand at 597.
The Bruins’ solid round was highlighted by the play of junior Lorie
Warren. The Hendersonville native posted a three-under par round of 69,
which ties her own school record for lowest 18-hole score by a Belmont
golfer. At one point during her round, she birdied six of eight holes,
including four straight on holes 8, 9, 10, and 11. Her 147 total for 36-holes
vaulted her into the individual lead over first round leader Laura Jansone
and Natalia Giraldo, both of ETSU, by two shots.
The other four Belmont golfers are among the top-25. Senior Rebekah Wilson
is tied for eighth at 156 after posting a 76 on Tuesday. Junior Ashleigh
Garman is tied for 12th at 161. Freshman Lauren Spurlock is tied for 14th
at 163, while junior Lauren Oeser is tied for 21st at 165.
