Jonesborough,
Tenn. – The Belmont women’s golf team posted their
highest finish ever at the Atlantic Sun Championship and had the program’s
first two All-Tournament honorees as the conference tournament wrapped
up Wednesday afternoon at The Ridges Golf Club in Jonesborough, Tennessee.
On the best weather day of the tournament, the Bruins, who shot 316 in
the final round, could not catch up to second place Campbell and finished
third with a final team total of 942. It marked the best finish at the
conference championship by Belmont since joining the league in 2001. ETSU
captured their first conference crown by shooting a 306 on Wednesday to
finish at 903. Campbell placed second, posting a 54-hole total of 928.
Individually, two Bruins earned All-Tournament honors by placing in the
top-five. Junior Lorie Warren finished tied for second with a 54-hole
total of 227 (+11) after posting an 80 on Wednesday. She missed a birdie
putt on the 18th hole that would have forced a playoff to determine the
individual champion. It was the highest finish ever by a Belmont golfer
in the conference championship. Senior Rebekah Wilson closed out her Belmont
career in style as she posted a one-over par 73 to finish tied for fifth
with a total score of 229. They become the first two All-A-Sun Tournament
honorees in the program’s history. The individual medalist for the
championship was Laura Jansone of ETSU, who finished at 226.
The three other Belmont golfers all finished among the top-25. Freshman
Lauren Spurlock finished in a tie for 15th at 244, while juniors Lauren
Oeser and Ashleigh Garman tied for 22nd at 247.
