Macon,
Ga. – Belmont junior golfer Lorie Warren was named Atlantic
Sun Conference Women’s Golf Player of the Year Tuesday as voted
on by the conference’s head coaches and media relations directors.
She was also a unanimous choice for the All-Atlantic Sun first team. In
addition to Warren’s honors, freshman Lauren Spurlock was named
to the Atlantic Sun All-Freshman team.
Lorie Warren (Hendersonville, Tenn. – Hendersonville
HS) is the first Belmont golfer, male or female, to be named A-Sun Player
of the Year and the first BU golfer to earn All-Conference honors three
times. The junior, pictured left, led the team and conference in scoring
with a 74.7 average in 25 competitive rounds. During the 2007-08 season,
she won one individual title (Jacksonville Spring Invitational) and posted
a total of seven top-five finishes, including a tie for second place at
last month’s A-Sun Championship, the highest finish ever by a Belmont
golfer. In addition, she has made her mark in the Belmont record books.
She currently holds school records for the lowest scores for 18, 36, and
54 holes, the lowest season scoring average, and the lowest career scoring
average.
Lauren Spurlock (Germantown, Tenn. – SBEC) was
named to the Atlantic Sun Conference All-Freshman team. She finished the
2007-08 season with an 80.3 scoring average, had three top-20 finishes,
and placed in a tie for 15th place at last month’s A-Sun Championship.
She also had the third lowest scoring average among all A-Sun freshman
golfers. Spurlock, pictured right, also becomes the fourth Belmont golfer
to earn All-Freshman honors, joining Audra Williams, Rebekah Wilson, and
Lorie Warren.
“I
am pleased that Lorie and Lauren’s hard work over the past season
has been rewarded with these honors,” said Lissa Bradford, Belmont
head coach. “Their efforts were key to our success this season.”
The 2007-2008 season was another successful one for the Bruins. The team
won one team championship (Jacksonville Spring Invitational) and had eight
top-five finishes, which tied for the most in school history. They also
posted a third place finish at last month’s A-Sun Championship,
their highest finish ever at a conference championship.
