Nashville,
Tenn. – The Belmont women’s golf team will attempt
to capture their first conference title in the program’s history
as they compete at the Atlantic Sun Championship held this Monday-Wednesday
at The Ridges Golf and Country Club in Jonesborough, Tennessee.
The Bruins have had one of their most successful years as they enter
this year’s championship. As a team, they have seven top-10 finishes
in the 10 tournaments they have competed, including a team championship
at the Jacksonville Spring Invitational in February. It was the program’s
third team championship.
Individually, Belmont is led once again by Lorie Warren. The junior from
Hendersonville, Tennessee leads the team in scoring with a 74.6 average.
She has six top-five finishes, including winning an individual title at
Jacksonville earlier this year. Warren has also set new school records
for lowest 18, 36, and 54 hole scores and been named A-Sun Golfer of the
Month twice. In addition to Warren, fellow junior Lauren Oeser has also
had a solid season in 2007-08. The Old Hickory, Tennessee native is second
on the team in scoring at 78.7 and has two top-10 finishes, including
a career-best fourth place finish at Lady Jaguar Invitational in March.
BU’s top competitors for this year’s championship are Campbell
and ETSU. The Camels are aiming for their third straight conference title,
while ETSU, who have finished second the last two years, hope to win their
first title on their home turf.
The tournament will be a 54-hole event, held Monday-Wednesday, with 18
holes played each day. Play will begin each day at 8:00am ET. For live
