Nashville,
Tenn. – The Belmont University women’s golf program
announces the signing of two local golfers for the 2008-2009 season.
Kelly Maguigan (Franklin, Tenn. – Page HS) –
Kelly brings a highly accomplished resume to the Belmont program. During
the summer of 2007, she won four events on the AAJGT Tour and TaylorMade/adidas
Championship Series. She also finished in third at last October’s
TSSAA Class A-AA State Golf Tournament, the third straight year she finished
in the top-five in that event. Kelly was also named second team All-Midstate
by The Tennessean.
Jennifer Newman (Brentwood, Tenn. – Brentwood HS) –
Jennifer joins the Belmont program after a successful prep and junior
career. The Brentwood High product finished fifth in last month’s
TSSAA Class AAA State Tournament, after placing 17thin the same event
in 2006. During the past summer, she competed on several junior tour events
around the Midstate and posted eight top-five finishes, including one
first place showing. In addition, she was named second team All-Midstate
by The Tennessean.
“I am pleased that Kelly and Jennifer are joining us here at Belmont,”
said Lissa Bradford, who is in her seventh season as the leader of BU’s
women’s golf program. “They have been successful in their
junior careers up to this point and I expect them to be contributors to
program right from the start.”
The Belmont’s women’s golf team has had a great start to
their 2007-08 season. The team has posted four top-five finishes, including
a season best third place finish at the Troy Invitational last month.
They return to action on February 25-26 at the Jacksonville Intercollegiate
in Florida.
