WOMEN'S SOCCER EXTENDS WIN STREAK TO FOUR WITH CHATTANOOGA SHUT OUT

GAME DAY CENTRAL

Chattanooga, Tenn. – Junior Kari Lennon (Hoover, Ala.) led the way with two goals for the Belmont women’s soccer team (4-0-1, 0-0 A-Sun) as they shutout undefeated intrastate foe Chattanooga, 2-0, on Wednesday evening. The Bruins picked up their third shut out of the season, the third most in a single season since the program began in 1997.

BU first got on the board in the middle of the second half behind a corner kick by freshman Alex Mindel (Marietta, Ga.) that fed Lennon at the 57:16 mark. The security goal came in the 89th minute when Lennon intercepted a second ball from the Lady Mocs defense and pushed the ball past UTC goalkeeper Stacey Matthiessen.

Inside the net, junior Micaela Crowley (Hoover, Ala.) came away with five saves on the night.

Belmont out shot Chattanooga, 17-13, and dominated in corner kicks, 9-1.

“This was a very tactical game for both teams,” said Head Coach Lisa Howe. “Chattanooga is one of the best teams we’ve seen so far this year.

“Our defenders did a good job of keeping shape. Overall, I thought our girls did a great job tonight.”

Belmont returns to action on Friday evening at the Whitten Soccer Complex. The Bruins will host Valparaiso beginning at 6:30 p.m.
