BU Women at Troy and Jacksonville State

Nashville,
Tenn. – The Belmont track and field teams posted a total
of 13 top-five finishes as they competed Saturday at the Rhodes Lynx Invitational
in Memphis and the Alabama Relays in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
At the Rhodes Invitational in Memphis, the Belmont women posted nine
top-five finishes, including five individual titles. The Bruins also set
two school records. Jessica Giles placed first in the 100 meters with
a time of 12.00, a personal best. Lynette Rives won the 200 meters with
a time of 24.33, while Giles placed second with a personal best time of
24.33. Lizz Pollock picked up another victory in the 400 meter hurdles
with a time of 1:01.83, which broke the school record she set last week.
In addition, BU’s 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams also picked up victories
in their respective events with school records. The 4x100 team of Lizz
Pollock, Lynette Rives, Jessica Giles, and Khalia Turner broke the school
record with a time of 46.77. The 4x400 relay team of Lizz Pollock, Khalia
Turner, Lynette Rives, and Britney Green set a new mark with a time of
3:57.65.
The Belmont men had three top-five finishes at the Rhodes meet on Saturday
and set two new school records. The highlight for the men’s squad
was Ryan Snellen’s victory in the 1500 meters with a time of 3:57.27.
In addition, the Belmont 4x100 relay team placed second in their event
with a time of 42.82. Joe Frye broke the school records in the hammer
throw (141-02) and shot put (43-09.25).
At the Alabama Relays on Saturday, only a small group of Belmont distance
runners from the women’s team competed. The highlight for the BU
women was Lauren Williams, who won the 1500 meter title with a school
record time of 4:29.35.
The Belmont men’s squad will be off next week, but the BU women
will be back in action next Saturday at the Coach O Invitational at Troy
University and at the JSU Springtime Invitational at Jacksonville State.
