Ga. -- For the second time in three weeks the Atlantic Sun has
selected Belmont's Lynette Rives as the Athlete of the Week after a first
place finish and two record-breaking performances at the Saluki Classic
in Carbondale, Ill., the league announced today.
Rives, a sophomore biology major from Clarksville, Tenn., bested a field
of 58 runners in the 200-meter dash with her first-place time of 25.00.
In the 60-meter dash, Rives crossed the finish line third with a time
of 7.67, establishing a new Belmont record in the event. She also garnered
a third place finish as a member of Belmont's 4x400-meter relay team (4:00.43).
Competing in the long jump, Rives broke another school record with her
leap of 18-10.00. The jump earned her a third place finish in the event.
The honor is the second of the year for Rives and the third of her young
career with the Bruins. Rives was honored once last season (Jan. 11, 2006)
and was also named the co-Athlete of the Week on Jan. 10, 2007.
The Atlantic Sun Athlete of the Week is announced every Wednesday during
the 2007 indoor track season.
The 12-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont,
Campbell, ETSU, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb,
Mercer, UNF and Stetson with Florida Gulf Coast and USC Upstate beginning
competition in 2007-08.
