CITY, Tenn. – The women’s track and field team participated
in the first day of the Atlantic Sun Indoor Championships on the campus
of East Tennessee State in Johnson City, Tenn.
The team placed first in the Women Distance Medley with a time of 12:21.75,
which broke the school record. The runners in the race were freshman Lauren
Weaver (Nashville, Tenn.), sophomore Britney Green (Rowlette, Texas),
freshman Deidra Gintel (Hollywood, Fla.) and sophomore Brittany Thune
(Sioux Falls, N.D.).
Junior Lynette Rives (Clarksville, Tenn.) broke the Belmont record for
distance in the long jump with an attempt of 5.93m, which was good enough
to finish in third.
Weaver finished in fifth in the 3000 Meter Run with a time of 10:21.10.
Senior Elizabeth Smothers (Brentwood, Tenn.) ran in a time of 10:44.93
to finish in ninth. Freshman Erin Mankin (Nashville, Tenn.) and sophomore
Aubrey Alexander (Strongville, Ohio) placed in 14th and 17th respectively
with times of 11:35.95 and 11:41.09.
The Bruins will resume action at the A-Sun Championships on Mar. 1.
