CITY, Tenn. – The women’s track and field finished second
at the Atlantic Sun Indoor Championships on the campus of East Tennessee
State in Johnson City, Tenn.
The team finished with 87 points, which was only one spot behind the
A-Sun Champions, Jacksonville, who finished with 157 points.
The team placed first in the Women Distance Medley with a time of 12:21.75,
which broke the school record. The runners in the race were freshman Lauren
Weaver (Nashville, Tenn.), sophomore Britney Green (Rowlette, Texas),
freshman Deidra Gintel (Hollywood, Fla.) and sophomore Brittany Thune
(Sioux Falls, N.D.).
The team also won the 4x400 Meter Relay with a school-record tying time
of 3:47.34. The Belmont runners in the race were junior Elizabeth Pollock
(Clarksville, Tenn.), sophomore Khalia Turner (Nashville, Tenn.), freshman
Quina Fortune (New Orleans) and junior Lynette Rives (Clarksville, Tenn.).
Rives also won the 200 Meter Dash by shattering the school record with
a winning time of 23.97s. Fortune finished fourth, running a time of 24.81s
and Turner placed fifth with a time of 25.84s.
Senior Christa Coppin (Brentwood, Tenn.) won the pole vault with a clearing
height of 3.65m, which broke a school record.
Rives continued her excellent A-Sun Championships when she broke the
Belmont record for distance in the long jump with an attempt of 5.93m,
which was good enough to finish in third. She broke another school record
in the Long Jump competition, going for a distance of 5.93m, which was
also good enough to finish third.
Turner finished third in the 400 Meter Dash with a time of 56.99s, while
Pollock placed fifth with a time of 57.64.
Pollack also ran in the 60 Meter Hurdles race and placed fifth with a
time of 9.06s.
Sophomore Elizabeth Codrington (Greta, La.) finished fourth in the Triple
Jump with a distance of 11.46m.
Green placed 10th in the 800 Meter Run, running a time of 2:29.17, while
Gintel finished 12th with a time of 2:33.35.
Thune placed second in the 1 Mile run with a time of 5:16.95. Junior
Mollie Schlarman (Southgate, Ky.) finished closely in third at 5:17.17.
Senior Elizabeth Smothers (Brentwood, Tenn.) rounded out the Bruins in
the race, finishing sixth with a time of 5:21.31.
Thune also ran in the 500 Meter race and placed seventh with a time of
18:32.69. Smothers placed ninth with a time of 18:45.57.
Weaver finished in fifth in the 3000 Meter Run with a time of 10:21.10.
Smothers ran in a time of 10:44.93 to finish in ninth.
Freshman Erin Mankin (Nashville, Tenn.) and sophomore Aubrey Alexander
(Strongville, Ohio) placed in 14th and 17th respectively with times of
11:35.95 and 11:41.09.
The Bruins have finished the indoor portion of their schedule and will
start the outdoor season at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C. on Mar.
