BELMONT’S WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD TEAM OPENS INDOOR SEASON AT ED TEMPLE CLASSIC; BREAKS MEDLEY RELAY RECORD

NASHVILLE, TENN. - - The Belmont women’s track team opened its 2008 indoor season at the Ed Temple Classic, hosted by Tennessee State, in Nashville Tenn. on Saturday.

The group of junior Elizabeth Pollock (Clarksville, Tenn.), sophomore Khalia Turner (Nashville, Tenn.), freshman Quina Fortune and sophomore Lynette Rives (Clarksville, Tenn.) broke the school record for the 4x200 Meter Relay with a winning time of 1:44.85.

Belmont also participated in the 4x400 Meter Relay and placed a team in third place with a time of 3:58.45.

Sophomore Elizabeth Codrington (Gretna, La.) finished second in the Triple Jump with a distance of 37’9’’ which broke her own school record.

Pollock also broke her own school record in the 55 Meter Hurdles with a time of 8.60, placing sixth in the race.

Rives won the 200 Meter Dash with a time of 24.97s. She also broke her own school record in the 55 Meter Dash with a time of 6.99, finishing second. Fortune placed third in the same race with a time of 25.42s.

Turner placed fourth in the 400 Meter Dash with a time of 58.61s. Freshman Ashley Pickett finished 11th in the race with a time of 1:01.49. Sophomore Britney Green (Rowlette, Tex.) placed sixth in the 800 Meter Run with a time of 2:31.74. Freshman Dee Dee Gintel placed ninth in the race, running the race in 2:34.32.

The Bruins will return to action at the MTSU Invitational in Murfreesboro, Tenn. on Jan. 19.
