CARBONDALE,
ILL. - - The Belmont women’s track and field team participated in
the McDonald’s Invitational, hosted by Southern Illinois, this past
weekend.
Junior Lynette Rives won the finals of the 200 Meter Dash with a time
of 24.52s. This is the third time this indoor season that she has won
this competition at a meet. Her teammate, freshman Quina Fortune (New
Orleans) finished second with a time of 25.00s. Sophomore Elizabeth Codrington
(Gretna, La.) placed 23rd in the competition with a time of 27.15s.
The Bruins also won the 4x400 Meter Relay, breaking the school record,
with a time of 3.47.34. The runners for Belmont were Rives, Fortune, junior
Elizabeth Pollock (Clarksville, Tenn.) and sophomore Khalia Turner (Nashville,
Tenn.).
Senior Christa Coppin (Brentwood, Tenn.) finished third in the Pole Vault
with a clearing height of 3.50m. Fortune ran in the finals of the 60 Meter
Dash in a time of 7.75s, good enough for fourth.
Pollock placed sixth in the 60 Meter Hurdles finals with a time of 9.10s.
In the 800 Meter Run, sophomore Britney Green (Rowlette, Texas) finished
15th with a time of 2:28.29 and freshman Dee Dee Gintel (Hollywood, Fla.)
placed 21st in the competition with a time of 2:31.15.
The Bruins will conclude their indoor portion of the season at the Atlantic
Sun Championships from Feb. 29-Mar. 1 in Johnson City, Tenn.
