Indianapolis,
Ind. – Two of Belmont’s female sprinters, Lizz Pollock
and Lynette Rives, finished in the top-25 in their respective events at
this week’s 2006 AT&T United States Junior National Track and
Field Championships in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Pollock, a Clarksville, Tennessee native, competed in the 400 meter hurdles.
The rising sophomore and All-Atlantic Sun performer placed 25th in Thursday’s
preliminary round with a time of 1:05.93. Unfortunately, she failed to
reach the finals.
Rives, also a Clarksville, Tennessee native, competed in the 200 meters.
The rising sophomore and All-Atlantic Sun performer placed 20th in Friday’s
preliminary round with a time of 24.50, which also failed to get her into
the finals.
Their appearance in this year’s Junior Nationals is another sign
of the growth of Belmont’s track and field program. This year marked
the first time since Sarah Damen in 2002 that a Belmont track athlete
has competed at Junior Nationals.
