Nashville,
Tenn. -- Belmont freshman sprinter Lynette Rives has qualified
in the 400 meters for next month’s NCAA Mideast Regional track meet
in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Rives earned a spot in the 400 meter field at regionals after she won
the Atlantic Sun title in that event on April 15 in Orlando. By winning
the conference title, she automatically qualifies for regionals.
“Lynette has done a great job this year,” said Jon Riley,
Belmont assistant track coach. “She really works hard in practice
and in the weight room and that hard work has led to her success this
spring.”
Though just a freshman, the Clarksville, Tennessee native has already
made her mark in the Belmont record books with her performances during
the indoor and outdoor seasons. During the indoor season, she won the
400 meter title and finished second in the 200 meters at the A-Sun Championships.
She also set new school indoor records in the 200 and 400 meters and the
long jump. During team’s outdoor campaign, she finished first three
times, including the aforementioned 400 meters at the A-Sun Championships,
and set school records in the 100, 200, and 400 meters. In addition to
her individual accomplishments, the Rossview HS product was a member of
Belmont’s sprint relay teams, who earned All-Atlantic Sun honors
in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.
“I am looking forward to seeing Lynette compete at regionals next
month,” said Riley. “That experience will be of great use
as she moves forward with her sprinting career at Belmont.”
The NCAA Mideast Regional is scheduled for May 26-27 at the University
of Tennessee in Knoxville. More information about that meet can be found
