Nashville,
Tenn. -- Belmont women’s cross country/track and field program
will welcome four new student-athletes for the 2006-2007 season.
Elizabeth Codrington (Gretna. La./West Jefferson HS) –
Elizabeth joins the Belmont program after a successful prep career in
Louisiana. At the 2006 Louisiana State Indoor Championships, she placed
second in the triple jump and third in the long jump.
Britney Green (Rowlette, Texas/Rockwall HS) –
Britney comes to Belmont after a successful as a sprinter at Rockwall
High School. During her career, she specialized in the 200, 400, and 800
meters.
Brittany Thune (Sioux Falls, S.D./Roosevelt HS) – Thune
is one of the top cross country and distance runners from South Dakota.
In cross country, she placed 12th at the 2005 South Dakota Class AA Championship.
In track and field, she finished sixth in the 800 meters and seventh in
the 1600 meters at the 2006 State Meet.
Khalia Turner (Nashville, Tenn./Hillsboro HS) – Khalia
joins the BU track and field program from Nashville’s Hillsboro
High School, just down the street from the Belmont campus. A sprinter,
Turner, placed second in the 400 meters and seventh in the 200 meters
at last month’s Tennessee Class AAA Track Championship.
“We have a quality group of freshmen coming in for the 2006-07
season,” said Seth Sheridan, BU head coach. “They are really
talented and they will give us a big boost as we enter this upcoming campaign.”
During the 2005-06 season, the Belmont women’s cross country team
finished second at the conference championships last October while the
track and field program placed eighth at the A-Sun Championships in April.
In addition, freshman sprinter Lynette Rives was the A-Sun Indoor and
Outdoor 400 Meter Champion and qualified for the NCAA Mideast Regional.
