Jeff Langdon
Head Coach
Men's Cross Country/Track

Jeff Langdon is entering his fourteenth year as Belmont's head coach for the men's cross country team. In addition to his cross country duties, Langdon also serves as Belmont head men's track and field coach.

Langdon is coming off another successful cross country and track season. He helped guide his alma mater to a fourth straight Atlantic Sun Conference Championship in 2005. Four Bruins finished in the top-10 to help clinch the victory. Junior Brad Polley won the A-Sun Individual title and was named A-Sun Runner of the Year. In addition, Langdon was voted Coach of the Year for the fourth time.

Since the program's move to Division I seven years ago, the men's cross country program is one of the most successful teams at Belmont. In addition to his conference titles, his teams have finished in the top-12 at the NCAA South Regional each year for the past seven. Langdon has also produced ten All-Region runners and 19 All-Atlantic Sun performers. In addition to the team's competitive success, they have also excelled in the classroom. Six Bruins have earned Atlantic Sun Conference All-Academic honors, with five of them earning them in both 2001 and 2002. In addition, the program had the highest team grade point average in Division I during the 2005 according to the United States Cross Country Coaches Association.

His track and field teams have also found success since the move to Division I. In two of their last five years, the Bruins have finished third at the A-Sun Championships and this past year Collin Magut won the 1500 and 5000 meters at the conference’s outdoor meet, while Stephen Register won the 400 meters at the A-Sun indoor championships.

For Langdon, coaching is a natural extension from his competitive days at Belmont where he ran from 1979-83. He was an outdoor track All-American in the marathon, an Academic All-American and the 1982 District 24 Individual Champion in the marathon. Langdon was inducted into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame in September of 1994.

A native of Fairfield, Ohio, Jeff and his wife Kelly, also a Belmont graduate, have one daughter, Jenna, who is nine.

Scott Bennett
Assistant Coach

Scott Bennett begins his second season as a assistant coach with the men’s cross country and track teams.

Bennett comes to Belmont after two successful years coaching at Bates College in Lewiston, ME. While there Bennett worked primarily with women’s mid-distance and distance runners, coaching three national qualifiers and three All-ECAC performances in cross country and track. Along with those successes, Bates cross country improved it’s finish at NCAA regional, missing a national berth by 21 points in 2003. Bennett also brings logistical and timing experience from working as event management at the 2003 and 2004 NCAA Northeast Regional, the 2005 New England Division III Championships, and as meet director for the 2002 Zach Stegeman 5K.

An English Literature graduate from West Virginia Wesleyan College, Bennett was a competitive distance runner, four season team captain and worked in the track office as an assistant. Highlighting his undergraduate career was the opportunity to run with Oxford University while studying abroad there in 2000/2001.

USAT&F Level I certified, Scott spent the summer of 2005 interning at the U.S. Olympic Training Center studying lactate analysis and working with endurance athletes.

Currently a Belmont graduate student in the Education program, Scott continues to compete in road races. Coach Bennett resides in Nashville.
