First Ever Battle of the Bruins Talent Show a Success!
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee put on the school's first-ever student-athlete talent show to benefit Nashville Special Olympics on Tuesday night. The program featured 15 acts --- 10 from Belmont teams and five from Special Olympics, including the Music City Miracle Choir, solo performances by Jimmy Clark and Joey Warren, and a performance from the Overton High School Sparkle Cats.
All acts put on a memorable show for the 860 fans in attendance, as well as performing for the panel of celebrity judges. The night opened with Jimmy Clark performing the National Anthem. Clark also closed out the show with his cover of "I Can Only Imagine" while the votes were tallied to determine the winner. The Belmont Baseball team, which performed a comedy skit, took home the top prize, narrowly defeating women's soccer and women's track and field. Other highlights of the night included Joey Warren singing "Bye Bye Bye" and performing with the softball team and the Music City Miracle Choir singing "Life is a Highway" and "Go Light Your World."
While the acts on stage provided entertainment for the crowd, the main focus of the night was Nashville Special Olympics. The goal of the event was to raise funds for the organization, which SAAC accomplished through ticket sales, a silent auction, and donations. In total, SAAC raised $10,079 for Nashville Special Olympics, with more donations continuing to come in. SAAC, which is made up of one represenatitive of each Belmont athletic team, was greatly appreciative of all of those who came out in support of the event, participated in the silent auction, or made donations. The group also thanks emcee Peter Powell, all of the sponsors for the event, and the panel of celebrity judges.
